St. Joan of Arc |
St. Joan of Arc recalls
moments when Jeanne Pucelle was wounded in battle or delayed in her mission,
but always found respite in her divine Voices.
There is a fallen statue in the foreground partially obscured by undergrowth. A clear fresh stream flows by on a sunlit day, as if no calamity could be possible. The background path was photographed at Holyland USA. The rock-strewn river runs through New Boston, New Hampshire. The foreground pitcher plants grow in bog conditions in the deep south where the rivers do not have the large rocks and stones that break the water as they do in New England. Disguised in boy's clothing, the young Joan set out on a four-hundred mile journey to meet the Dauphin and seek his support for her campaign against the English. Long after her identity was known, she retained these clothes at the prompting of her Voices, one of which was St. Michael the archangel. It is for this reason that I have used a statue of St. Michael to represent her fallen in battle. St. Joan's faith was unshakable. Her example was so inspiring to the French that she posed a significant military threat to her enemies. Joan of Arc is "the protector of women in distress, and her help can be called upon in moments of fear. 1 |
